Bite-Sized Reads: Alligators & Baseball

Way down south, in the Louisiana bayou lived a man named Amos Hershey. Ol’ Amos lived by himself in the swamp and hunted alligators for a living. One day Amos was on the hunt for a real mean ‘gator by the name of Sawtooth Slim. Now ‘Slim was the big nasty of the bayou, a massive albino beast who’d devoured every man who came to claim him.

Unfettered by the failure of his fellow ‘gator wranglers and tales of ‘Slim’s infamous death rattle, Amos was a true red, white, and blue-blooded American and so grabbed his shotgun and set out on the trail.

Under the cover of darkness, he found himself wading in the deep, soaked waist-high with the murky swamp water. An almost tiger-like growl grumbled from beneath and Amos was hoisted far above the water surface between two great jaws of scale and a picket-line of razor-sharp teeth. Amos kicked and flailed and gouged and scratched to no effect. The man-eating ‘gator seemed to delight in his death throes and spun like a marionette in the blood-soaked waters.

The crowds in the baseball stadium erupted into a thunderous applause; they’d never seen a man eaten alive by an alligator at half-time before…

*A very simple story I wrote given the prompt ‘A man, an alligator, and a baseball stadium’.
